Philosophy and Approach: I believe that every person has unique experiences and strengths that help lead them to their own best beliefs, decisions and healing. I employ a holistic, client-centered, strength-based, trauma-informed approach to therapy. I feel it is also important to honor a client’s spiritual preference/inclusiveness within the therapeutic environment. I also encourage laughter, and artistic creative expression within my sessions.

My Clinical Approach: Draws upon the perspectives and techniques of various therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Internal Family Systems (IFS), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Parent Management Training-Oregon (PMTO), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Choice Theory-Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Logo Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Play Therapy, Sand tray therapy, Guided Imagery Mindfulness, and Vocational and Educational Career Counseling,

Formal Education and Training: I hold a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling with a specialization in Mental Health Counseling from Thomas University in Thomasville Georgia. Major course work and training included human growth and development, crisis counseling, substance abuse counseling methods, medical/psychological aspects of disability, and clinical rehabilitation/vocational career training which can assist clients facing career related anxiety. And Counseling at Thomas University, and over 25 years of combined experience as a DHS case worker, Houseparent, Houseparent Administrator, job Coach, Case Manager, Psychiatric Technician and Mental Health Therapist.
As a Licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I abide by its Code of Ethics. To maintain my license, I am required to participate in continuing education, taking classes dealing with subjects relevant to this profession.
Fees: The fee schedule is determined by the agency. All current Clients are fee for service clients until agency is paneled with the OHP and other insurance agencies. Please see current rates and service descriptions at David.barnett.org for more information.
As a client of an Oregon Licensee, you have the following rights:
• To expect that a licensee has met the qualification of training and experience required by state law;
• To examine pubic records-maintained by the Board and have the Board confirm credential of a licensee;
• To obtain a copy of the Code of Ethics (Oregon Administrative Rules 833-100);
• To report complaints to the Board;
• To be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving the services;
• To be assured of privacy and confidentiality while receiving services as defined by rule or law, with the following exceptions; 1) Reporting suspected child abuse; 2) Reporting imminent danger to you or others’ 3)Reporting information required in court proceedings or by your insurance company, or other relevant agencies; 4) Providing information concerning licensee case consultation or supervision; and 5) Defending claims brought by you against me;
• To be free from discrimination because of age, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, national origin, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, or socioeconomic status.
